For this article, we configured two 84-inch straight radiology workstations for a three-monitor diagnostic reading setup.

Both include monitor support, CPU storage, power and cable management.

We chose the XM8 rather than the lower-priced XM6 because its RollerVision system is the closer comparison to Biomorph’s individually adjustable monitor-arm approach.

Why Compare Level 3 Plus to XM8?

The XM8 is the closer ergonomic comparison because it includes Xybix’s RollerVision monitor system.

RollerVision provides greater control over monitor height and focal depth.

That makes it more comparable to the extensive positioning available from the individual monitor arms used with the Level 3 Plus.

What About the Xybix XM6?

You can reduce the Xybix builder price by moving down to the XM6.

Our similarly configured 84-inch XM6 displayed:

The biggest change is the monitor-positioning system.

XM6 Uses RollerPlatform

The XM6 uses Xybix RollerPlatform.

Diagnostic monitors remain on their manufacturer-supplied stands and are secured to the platform. The platform moves forward and backward to change focal depth.

It does not provide the same individual articulated positioning available from monitor arms.

Using Existing Monitor Arms is Not an XM6 or XM8 Option

The XM6 monitor system is designed around RollerPlatform rather than conventional monitor arms.

That matters when upgrading an existing reading station.

If you already own monitor arms that work with your diagnostic displays, they cannot simply be transferred to an XM6 or XM8. The workstations uses its own monitor mounting systems.

RollerVision provides greater height and focal-depth adjustment, which is why we consider XM8 the more appropriate comparison to an articulated monitor-arm setup.

Level 3 Plus Gives You Another Option

Level 3 Plus uses conventional monitor arms mounted to an independently powered monitor surface.

For a new reading room, you can configure it with premium Humanscale M8 Pro arms, as we did here.

For a workstation refresh, compatible existing monitor arms may be reused.

That gives facilities more flexibility in deciding what actually needs to be replaced.

Dual Independently Adjustable Surfaces

Both companies get one of the most important elements of radiology ergonomics right.

The keyboard surface and monitor surface adjust independently.

That allows monitor height to be adjusted without forcing the keyboard and hands into the same vertical position. Both workstations provide professional dual-surface architecture.

Four-Leg Stability

Both workstations use four-leg architecture.

The Level 3 Plus uses a heavy-duty all-steel four-leg frame beneath two independently moving surfaces and a substantial multi-monitor setup.

For its larger 95-inch Level 3 Plus, Biomorph adds a fifth leg for even greater stability.

The Biggest Difference: How the Monitors Move

XM8 uses RollerVision to adjust the monitor system.

Level 3 Plus takes a different approach: the entire monitor surface adjusts vertically while each diagnostic display is mounted to its own articulated monitor arm.

That gives radiologists adjustment at both the work-surface level and the individual-screen level.

Each Monitor Moves Independently

Radiology setups don't always use three identical displays in identical positions.

With individual monitor arms, each screen can be adjusted for height, focal depth, tilt, angle and orientation.

The complete monitor surface can then also raise or lower independently from the keyboard surface.

The Level 3 Plus uses LINAK technology to power its independent work surfaces.

It provides digital height controls, presets, soft start/stop movement and a published adjustment range of approximately 22.1 to 48.6 inches.

Biomorph identifies the manufacturer of its lift technology directly.

What Powers the XM8?

Xybix publishes extensive information about what its workstation and RollerVision systems do.

In the public materials we reviewed, however, we did not find the manufacturer of its lift columns or motors identified by name. Biomorph publicly identifies LINAK as its lift-technology supplier.

That does not mean one system is inherently better. It is simply a difference in component transparency.

Sit or Stand

Both workstations provide a broad professional sit-to-stand range.

Level 3 Plus publishes a 22.1-to-48.6-inch adjustment range, while the Xybix information reviewed shows an approximately 22-to-48-inch range.

Both allow radiologists to change working positions throughout the day.

Power and Cable Management

Multi-monitor reading stations require serious cable management.

Our Level 3 Plus configuration includes:

Xybix pricing is not represented by one simple online purchase price.

Its website publishes ranges, while the configurator displays a builder price. Contract pricing and additional discounts may also apply.

To determine an organization's final price, buyers generally need to work through a salesperson and quote process.

Your Xybix Price May Be Lower

Hospitals, imaging centers and health systems may receive contract pricing or negotiate discounts from the Xybix builder price.
